Real Estate Agent vs. Broker vs. Realtor

Date: 4/6/23

Are you confused about the difference between a real estate agent, broker, and realtor? Here’s a quick breakdown!

When choosing a real estate professional, keep in mind their level of experience and expertise, as well as their affiliation with professional organizations like the NAR.

AGENT

A real estate agent is licensed to help people buy and sell properties. They work under a licensed broker and are required to pass a state exam before they can practice.

BROKER

A broker, on the other hand, has additional education and experience requirements beyond that of an agent. Brokers can work independently or manage a team of agents.

REALTOR

A realtor is a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), a professional organization that represents the interests of its members and promotes ethical and professional conduct in the industry. Not all agents or brokers are realtors.
